Tommy Lawson says there’s no chance Skem will go into relax mode

TOMMY LAWSON says there is no danger of Skelmersdale United taking their foot off the gas after they surged into a 12-point lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division table.

After a three-game mini-blip, Skem returned to winning ways with a 4-1 triumph at Ossett Albion on Tuesday evening. Two goals from Josh Hine, and strikes from Mark Jackson and Kenny Strickland did the damage for the visitors.

Lawson's side are now a dozen points clear of Ramsbottom United, with 13 games left to play. They travel to struggling Garforth Town this weekend looking to further strengthen their position.

Garforth sit bottom of the table, without a home win all season and having conceded 118 goals in their 32 league games so far.

Lawson, though, says there will be no complacency from his side.

“We won't focus on anything other than the next game,” he said. “It would be easy to get carried away and start saying we're going to do this and we're going to do that, but we won't be doing that. We're focused on Garforth away, and after that it will be Bamber Bridge at home, nothing more.

“We've been consistent all season. Sides have had a little go here and there, and put some runs together, but we've just stayed constant all the way through. It's very pleasing to watch and to enjoy, because the lads are putting so much in.

“There are 13 games left, 39 points to play for. That's a hell of a lot – a season's worth for some teams – so we will just take each step as it comes and hopefully come the end of the season we will have what we deserve.”

Lawson will welcome back strikers Gary Burnett and Tony Evans to his squad for this weekend's clash, after the pair missed the win at Ossett through illness.

“It was a good workmanlike performance,” he said. “We were professional and we handled a tough game against a side that were fighting for their lives.

“Garforth won't be easy. We saw with Goole and Harrogate that you can come unstuck against sides that are struggling. They have invested a little bit to try and stay in the division, and they have improved of late.

“We will go there with the right attitude and hopefully take another big step forward.”
