HESKETH BANK’S first team have started the new season with three straight victories.
On the opening day they travelled to Blackburn to face Mill Hill St Peter’s and came away with a 2-0 victory with goals from Adam Thompson and Richard Burns.
This was followed up during the week with another 2-0 win at home to near neighbours Burscough Richmond with skipper Dan Birkby and Jamie Dalton scoring.
Last Saturday they travelled to Poulton Town who had been relegated from the Premier Division.
The home side began well and were rewarded after seven minutes with keeper Paul Sergeant being unable to keep out a volley from the edge of the box to concede his first goal of the season.
Poulton should have increased their lead soon after missing a couple of glorious chances.
Eventually Hesketh Bank got going and Jamie Dalton sent Dan Birkby clear and he made no mistake to equalise.
The home side continued to look the more likely to go into the lead before the interval but on the stroke of half time Dan Birkby became the provider and Dalton left two defenders on the floor before slotting past the keeper.
Harsh words from manager James Smith during the interval who was clearly not happy with the performance seemed to do the trick.
Injured Jamie Johnson was replaced by Josh Brierley at the interval and the team looked more compact giving Poulton little chance to get forward.
Dan Birkby looked to have increased the lead on the hour but his effort was harshly ruled out by the referee.
Sixteen-year-old Elliot Cookson came off the bench on 70 minutes for his first team debut replacing Adam Birkby at centre-half as Hesketh Bank played out time to take all three points.
On Tuesday they were set to take on BAC Preston and then on Saturday they make their first trip of the season up to Barrow to play Hawcoat Park which kicks-off at 3pm.
MEANWHILE, Hesketh Bank’s Reserves – who had lost their first two games – turned things around in great fashion with a 7-1 victory last Saturday at home to Longridge Town with two goals each from John Ascroft, Bradley Haddock and Marc Pinckard and one from Steve Cannon.
On Saturday they entertain Turton from Bolton which kicks-off at 3pm.
