THEY say ‘good things come to those who wait’.
Well, the players of Town Green FC were made to wait over two months after winning the Mid Lancashire Football League until they could finally get their hands on the trophy!
Saturday marked the day of their end of season awards event and trophy presentation and the team were in good spirits to officially celebrate their league success.
Never one to bask in the moment, manager Leigh Ward had his mind set on the campaign ahead and adding to the success from the 2012-13 season.
He said: “The lads did fantastically well last year and they got everything they deserved for their hard work and dedication.
“However, that has gone now and will count for nothing if we don’t come out with the same mindset.
“Last season we were very much dark horses and teams were just expecting us to roll over when they came to play us.
“The element of surprise has been taken away and teams are now going to raise themselves that bit more when they come to play us.
“It is now our job to make sure we are ready for every single game to be a potential cup final.”
It would appear that Ward and Town Green have their sights firmly set on retaining the league and going a step further than last season’s Lancashire FA Cup semi-final appearance.
The manager continued: “We are actively looking to improve the squad further and will be holding trials for any local players wanting to come down and play this season.”
