HESKETH BANK went three points clear at the top of Division One following their 6-0 home win over Millom last Saturday.
Manager James Smith made a few changes to the team with young Elliot Cookson making way for the return of Josh Norgate in defence, player coach Jamie Johnson replacing the injured Jordan Smethurst in midfield and Jamie Dalton coming back from injury in place of Ben Goodson.
On a lovely sunny day and with the pitch in great condition both sides took the opportunity to pass the ball. The opening goal came from Peter Henerty who had the simple task of tapping the ball in from close range following good work on the right from Richard Burns in the 12th minute.
The second came from the penalty spot in the 35th minute after Jamie Dalton was brought down by the keeper with Richard Burns making no mistake. Millom forced their way back into the game and keeper Paul Sergeant had to be quick off his line to stop them reducing the arrears. However on the stroke of half time Josh Norgate’s powerful header at the far post following a corner made it 3-0.
The second half brought three further goals without reply but they were late in the game.
Skipper Dan Birkby added a 4th in the 79th minute followed in quick succession by a superb 20 yard strike from substitute Steve Cannon and then in the 84th minute fellow substitute Ben Goodson rounded off the scoring from close range.
Up next is a difficult away fixture at Wyre Villa on Saturday which kicks off at 3pm.
Meanwhile the reserves came unstuck at Todmorden Borough losing 5-3 with two goals from Bradley Haddock and one from John Ascroft. On Saturday they are home to Bolton County which kicks off at 3pm.
