DEREK GOULDING has called upon his Burscough players to seize their chance in the limelight as they continue their FA Cup campaign this weekend.
The Linnets entertain Radcliffe Borough on Saturday in the first qualifying round, having seen off West Didsbury & Chorlton in the preliminary round.
Goulding has decent cup pedigree himself, as both a player and a manager, and says his players deserve their chance to shine this time around.
He said: “I think the work the lads have put in over the last 12 or 18 months means they deserve their chance to get some reward.
“I've said to them 'you're four games away from success'. You don't get that in the league, so the incentive is there to do well. We've got a home draw against a side we know well.
“We're just trying to encourage the lads to be positive and to take their chance.
“We know what a good cup run can do for the club, both in a footballing sense and a financial sense, but for those lads it's about the chance to give themselves a bit of the limelight and a bit of success, which they deserve.”
Goulding saw his side follow up their 3-3 draw with Ossett Town on Saturday with a goalless stalemate against Farsley on Tuesday, meaning Burscough are still without a win in the league this season.
“We're playing pretty well,” he said. “We've drawn a lot of games, as we did at the start of last season, and we just need to find that crossover from drawing to winning.
“It will click soon, I'm sure of it, and we will go on a run of games where we pick up a few wins.”
Goulding will make a late check on the fitness of captain Paul Williams, who injured a groin against Farsley, ahead of this weekend's game.
