HESKETH BANK got back to winning ways last Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 victory at the Centenary Sports Ground against mid table Lytham Town.
They remain in second place in Division One, six points behind leaders Lostock St. Gerards but with two games in hand.
Manager James Smith had a full squad to pick from apart from the long term injury of Kevin Cox who remains on the treatment table.
Back into the starting line-up came Ben Goodson, Neil Hulme and Jamie Dalton. The visitors had the first chance of the match after two minutes when a beautifully struck half volley from just outside the box was tipped over the bar by keeper Paul Sergeant.
Gradually however Hesketh Bank took control of the midfield and both John Stead and Jamie Dalton came close to opening the scoring.
On 14 minutes a cross from the left was cut back by Peter Henerty for the on-rushing midfielder Neil Hulme who guided the ball into the corner of the net for the opening goal. Shortly before the interval John Stead headed home a Ben Goodson corner to put the home side two up.
The second half began just as the first had finished with Hesketh Bank in control and John Stead added his second of the game after 56 minutes when Dan Birkby dispossessed the Lytham centre half and passed across to the unmarked Stead who drilled the ball under the advancing keeper.
Manager Smith then had the luxury of making substitutions and Jordan Smethurst almost made it 4-0 but his powerful shot came back off the under side of the crossbar.
Defensively they remained solid with keeper Sergeant having very little to do during the second half.
On Saturday they travel up the M6 to Cumbria to play at Furness Rovers, kick off is 2pm.
Meanwhile the reserves’ good form continues as they came away from Lytham Town’s reserve side with a 6-1 victory.
John Ascroft and Matthew Bowers got two goals each and Josh Brierley and Ollie Sumner added the others.
On Saturday they entertain Reserve Division Two leaders Mill Hill St. Peters at the CSG in the first round of the Houston Cup which also kicks off at 2pm.
