Adrian Butler scores a hole-in-one at the 12th at Hurlston Hall Golf Club

“ONCE IN A LIFETIME” is how a golfer has described his sensational hole-in-one.

Adrian Butler from Birkdale, marked his round at Hurlston Hall Golf Club with a one shot wonder on hole 12.

In windy conditions, 50-year-old Adrian used a driver to tee off from the 193 yard hole and sunk the ball much to his surprise and the joy of his playing partner.

A member at the club since 2006, Adrian was competing in the Mens Singles Matchplay tournament and qualified to a next round showdown with ex-captain Peter Jones tomorrow.

Adrian said: “For the last six foot of the shot I turned away because I knew it was going to end up on the green but my playing partner (John Forshaw) kept watching and was more elated than I was – it was a once in a lifetime thing.

“It is a long hole, all the par three’s at Hurlston Hall are, so I had to take my driver to it.”

Golfing tradition says the player who bags themselves the most revered shot in the game must buy everyone in the clubhouse a drink – luckily for Adrian he match did not finish until 8:30pm at which time the bar was relatively quiet.
