Town Green3
Redgate Yellow1
A TOUGH game beckoned for Town Green when they faced Redgate Rovers Yellow at Edge Hill in the semi-final of the Cup.
With the glittering prize being a place in the final, there was much at stake.
Town Green started brightly and confidently and even with the wind against them in the first half, they had the majority of possession with Jack McGregor, Connor Tierney and Kieron Turner having several scoring opportunities.
Some attractive, passing football was dished out by Town Green and they were very entertaining to watch.
They were unlucky not to take an early lead after probing and testing the Redgate defence, with the first half ending 0-0.
In the second half, TG continued to pressurise RRY by playing some slick, stylish football.
A TG goal eventually materialised after a great cross-field ball was played by Kieron Turner which was capitalised on by Connor Tierney, who drilled his shot past the keeper to give TG a well deserved 1-0 lead.
TG scored again after the impressive Josh Donson played a ball into the box which Tierney turned in one movement, hit on the half volley and rammed into the corner of the net.
The diminutive Connor Tierney completed his outstanding hat-trick to give TG a 3-0 lead and a ticket to the Cup Final.
Defensively, Town Green hardly put a foot wrong. The in-form Jake Beesley, Theo Chrisokhou, Rian Eades and JJ McNicholas stood strong and solid at the back protecting sweeper keeper Anthony Caunce, whose handling of the ball was superb.
Redgate did get a consolation goal which was beautifully taken by Dan Antrobus.
Josh Donson and Kieron Turner in midfield gave 110 per cent, combined well and exhibited gutsy determination.
The same can be said of Danny Halford, Jack McGregor and Ross Paxton.
Every single player played with passion, bravery, skill and an undeniable desire to win.
Today, Man of the Match went to hat-trick hero Connor Tierney, whose finishing was clinical and controlled.
