WEST LANCASHIRE bragging rights – and three points – were at stake at the weekend as Ormskirk West End Reds took on Skelmersdale North.
It was the first clash of season of last year's league winners Skem and runners-up Ormskirk.
The game kicked-off on a bright sunny day.
And what turned out to be the decisive goal came early in the match.
Ormskirk’s Nathan Hepke won possession in the centre of the pitch and released Lewis Gornall down the right wing.
Gornall took the ball on and delivered a low hard cross, which the Skem keeper could not handle and Rees Buxton was there to tap the ball home.
Buxton, after switching from Skem North to West End over the summer, was clearly delighted to net what proved to be the match-winning goal.
The second-half saw a battling display from West End with midfielders Harry Ireland and George Rose being worked hard by the strong Skem North team.
Skem North pressed but were unable to break down the West End defence led by man-of-the-match Matty Aggrey.
The win gives the Reds a two-point advantage at the top of the Skelmersdale Junior Football League under-13s division.
