Mariners andWynstay win in Ormskirk Sunday League
Ormskirk and District Sunday League
Mariners2
Kestrels1
KESTRELS got the game got off to a late start and it was ten minutes into a thrilling game before the arrival of the appointed referee.
Then what should have been the game of the day deteriorated into a farce within the next 15 minutes.
That’s when Sean Tierney’s frustration got the better of him and he decided to try his hand at wrestling, overlooked by the referee, to everyone’s astonishment.
Then to add insult to the Kestrel’s, as the ball was pumped long to Joey Davies in an offside position no whistle and the Mariners marksman potted home.
One down followed by one man down as the Kestrel’s voiced their anger a bit too harsh in one case for the sleepy official.
To their credit though they battle the odds and when Ben Sumner equalised in the second period things didn’t appear that bad.
Mariners immediately introduced leading marksman Kevin Doyle and the substitution paid off within 40 seconds of the kick off.
Mariners did hit the net a third time, ruled out this time for offside but the damage was done.
Both sides added to the excitement of a great football game, but that was clearly ruined by a daft three minute spell when the official clearly wished he had stayed in bed.
Inn Village0
Melling Victoria 5
Melling Victoria met Inn Village who have been having a hot and cold season and sheer finishing power decided the final outcome of this game.
Lee Smith had shown the way with a hat trick before the break, as the Vic’s build up to their own semi final in the premier cup after injuries have all but taken their championship hopes away. Gary Jenson and Mick Kennedy completed the rout and the Village where left to sharpen their attack before they face a semi-final in the Junior Cup.
For despite the score line the Village did play some attractive football, but without the finishing power of the Vic’s it was always going to be an uphill battle against the reigning champions.
Windy Bar4
Kodak0
Windy Bar are beginning to find a team again after a season of let downs and changes, and disposed of Kodak with four goals tightly closing the shutters their end.
Darren Hilditch was the hero with a decisive hat trick with John Roe adding to his tally with the forth.
Kodak got into the picture at times throughout this game but found the defensive cover hard to break down the longer it developed. Windy are now turning their sights to a good cup run to save their season.
Wynstay3
Bar Du Fay0
Wynstay met the Bar Du Fay for the second time in as many weeks and completed the double with this impressive league win.
Andy Pendleton got them off to a flying start with Anthony Duff adding to the score before the break. Gary Beattie made it three in the second half but it was the missed chances that gave Wynstay the biggest talking point of the day. Their secretary made a point of stating the clear cut chances that went unpunished, but hey the Bar Du Fay must have played their part?
Fantail3
Great Mogul3
No report for this game but a point a piece will only aid the Mogul in their present position.
Division Two
Oasis Café4
Metropolitan1
Oasis entertained Metropolitan in this top versus third from bottom fixture, and after a goalless first period it was Metropolitan who appeared in the driving seat.
Then disaster struck, and with the loss of their keeper followed by a needless penalty that was dispatched with ease by Darren Carr everything fell apart.
A brace by Steve McDonald followed by a classic Jay Riley finish and Oasis had secured another three points towards their championship race.
Harry McGill did pull out a late consolation from his suitcase, but Metro’s chance had come and gone.
Horse & Jockey3
Bar South0
The Horse & Jockey jump into second spot with games in hand after beating Bar South who whipped them for the first twenty minutes of this game.
But with nothing to show for their dominance it was the turn of the Jockey to grab the reigns, and mom Paul Healey nipped in with an impressive brace before the break.
With South now dropping furlongs behind as the game petered out, up stepped Lee Seddon with number three and game over.
Woodlyn3
MCA1
MCA drop a place following their defeat by Woodlyn who are creeping towards the leading pack. Paul Cosineux was the Woodlyn hero as he grabbed a brace and mom title with an impressive display throughout. Aaron Jones squeezed another in between after forty minutes, to give Woodlyn a two goal cushion at the break but it was Cosineux who stole the show. Bradley Hughes got a late consolation for MCA, but too little in the end from a team chasing for promotion.
Database3
Brownmoor1
Bottom club Database pulled off the shock of the day with a three one victory over Brownmoor, eight places above them.
John Boardman gave Database an early lead and despite an equaliser by Dave Mitchell before the break grew in confidence.
Joe South put them ahead again before Chris Stewart’s nightmare began for Brownmoor.
First he missed a penalty to even things, then he secured the points for Database with a late own goal. Database took the spoils leaving Brownmoor to the Steward enquiry.
Burscough2
Harrock2
An upturn in the Burscough season has seen them securing more points of late, but even with an impressive draw against Harrock today they still drop back to bottom spot after the Database result.
But let’s not dwell on the negative side as they matched Harrock in every department right throughout this match. The game endured a goal less first period as both teams cautiously went about seeking out each others weaknesses. Then after the half time cuppa exploded into action as the goals went in end to end. Andy Birks struck for Harrock, David Rossbottom equalised for Burscough, Andy Williams finally got use to loosing his sleuth Dick Barton to put Harrock ahead again before Samuel D Jackson stole the show with a great performance, and the point sharing equaliser.
Warby4
Cockbeck4
In an end to end encounter Warby and the Cockbeck ended even in this eight goal bonanza. Dave Martinez terrified the Warby defence with a first half hat trick and constant menacing that resulted in an own goal that finally helped to secure the point.
If only the Cockbeck defence could keep their feathers raised then their season would be rosier.
Alas its not pluming likely at present and Warby waded through the mess to grab the spoils. Reggie O’Kine netting a first half brace with Paul Smith and Harry Potter producing the second half magic. The Warby do have games in hand though.
Quarry Green4
Ghosts1
Quarry Green are quietly creeping up the table, today beating the Ghost by four goals to one.
But in going about their business they remain silent, thus another game without a report. Well at least today’s encounter, could have left them too scared to tell all?
