Ormskirk first and second teams had the weekend off

WITH no game for the Ormskirk first and second XV it was left to the other senior teams to fly the flag on Saturday.

The fourth XV travelled all the way to Kirby Lonsdale and got beat a 44-6, Jack Calverley the only points scorer with 2 penalties.

However the third XV cruised to an impressive 55-10 win over St Mary’s old boys at Green Lane.

The forwards were evenly matched, but the ‘Kirk speedy backs were just too quick for their opponents.

Tries came for Andy Wroe 3, Mark Essex, Adam Ainscow, Mark Hutchings, Andy Wilson, Phil Jack, Barry Whalley and five conversions also from Whalley. The game was a spectacle of rugby for the Kirk faithful on the touchline, with the highlight being the youthful back row trio of Andy Wilson at 7, Phil Davis at 6 and Big Mark Hutchings locking the scrum at 8. This weekend is the annual Ormskirk School v Old Boys game at Green Lane on Saturday kick off at 2.30.

The second XV are at home on Good Friday against Thornton Cleveleys 1st XV, and the third XV are away at Moore second XV on Saturday.

Then on Easter Monday the second team go to Thornton Cleveleys for the return fixture. The first team have one league game left against Bowdon on April 18, if they win it they will clinch fifth spot. On Saturday Bowdon got beat by Burnage who have now been confirmed as Champions as Widnes got soundly beaten at Wirral.
