ORMSKIRK Air Cadet Matthew Evans recently represented the Air Training Corps National Rugby Union Team.
The 17-year-old was chosen for the team of 15 from the ranks of 35,000 Air Cadets across Great Britain and lined up at scrum half against Warrington Colts RFC.
Evans and his team-mates won the match 26-12 in a thrilling contest at Defence Centre of Aeronautical Engineering (DCAE) Cosford, in Wolverhampton.
Air Commodore Ian Stewart, the Air Officer Commanding the Air Training Corps, wrote to Matthew personally to congratulate him on his success, noting that the “team work, and togetherness of the ATC side was a hugely important factor in the final result” and he should “take great pride from the victory”.
