Brad Hughes and Beth Mell - Ormskirk Badminton team
Tarleton 2nd 2 Ormskirk 2nd 6
AFTER promotion last year this season promises to be a challenge for Ormskirk 2. But a 6-2 win against Tarleton 2 (also promoted last season), settled the nerves.
Mike Kirby and Hannah Jackson started the night well with a 2-0 win against Sweeney and Clegg from Tarleton, followed by Ian McFegan and Jane Hughes who won a closely fought event against their opponents 2-1. Brad Hughes and Beth Mell then won their mixed doubles against Bray and Hill to make the score 3-0 to Ormskirk.
Newcomers to the team Nathan Hughes and Alice Grieve lost out to Wookey and Herdman 2-0 but acquitted themselves well being edged out 21-18 and 21-17. This made the half time score 3-1 to Ormskirk.
The levels began with Kirby and McFegan from Ormskirk beating Hill and Clegg quite easily 21-10, 21-10 meaning that Ormskirk couldn't lose the match, having reached a total of four games.
But with the next two events each going to three games Tarleton were threatening to get right back into the match. Only determined play by both Jane Hughes and Beth Mell against Bray and Sweeney to win 2-1, and Brad Hughes and Nathan Hughes who beat London and Herdman by the same score ensured that Ormskirk carried the victory.
Tarleton won the final event when McGing and Wookey beat Hannah Jackson and Alice Grieve 2-0.
