Skem Athletic AFC Ladies
FOLLOWING the huge success of the summer’s national tournament, Skem Athletic AFC Ladies have continued to make huge strides forward following their promotion from Lancashire's Division Two.
After positive discussions with Skelmersdale United chairman Paul Griffiths, an agreement was reached that would see Skem’s only ladies football team take residence at The West Lancashire College Stadium for the coming season.
Skem Athletic Ladies lost just one game last year in only their second full season. An impressive run of results seen them gain promotion to division one where they will face teams like Preston, Blackpool and Morcombe. The team are now hoping that this will provide the platform to attract the most talented female players from all over West Lancashire.
Former Skem United player and Skem Athletic Head Coach Mark Ashton said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the team and a great way of promoting girls and ladies football across the community.
“As the sport continues to grow it is important that we move with the times and this is a clear sign of our ambition to succeed.
“The chairman and the board at Skelmersdale United have been very welcoming and positive about the move and as a former Skem United player myself its great to be back here in a different role.”
For anyone interested in watching the ladies play and supporting your local ladies team, the next home game will be against Burnley FC on Sunday, October 20, kick off at 2pm.
