IT IS almost at the half way stage of the League programme, and Ormskirk Ladies find themselves at the top of NC One.
The team have amassed an incredible 191 points whilst only conceding a meagre 33 points in six league outings. But although these statistics make for impressive reading, there is no complacency within the camp.
Coach John Foster said: “We are pretty happy with our defensive shape this season but I still think we've yet to find our very best attacking form.
“But I think we'll peak at the right time and finish the season strongly.”
The team have come a long way in a short period of time but Foster insists that the club's greatest strength is the player experience that is on offer.
“We are all determined to retain the rugby family feel within the squad whilst at the same time increasing our player roster and creating an environment where the players can learn and express themselves,” he said.
“The Ladies team have a much more positive profile within the club and in the local community these days. It's great to see our match reports on the website and in the local paper and we are tremendously fortunate to have access to some of the best training facilities in the North of England thanks to our good friends at Edge Hill University.”
The huge success was rewarded last month with news that an anonymous “friend of Ormskirk Ladies” had agreed to purchase the team a complete new playing kit.
Team manager Lou Prescott said: “The new kit looks fantastic. It's a really modern design and the girls cannot wait to wear it at our next League game. It's an incredibly generous offer and it all adds to the player experience.”
Phil Cadman, who recently joined the coaching team, was also upbeat about the future: “Everything is falling into place nicely. The squad has a perfect mix of youth and experience and we are getting enquiries from prospective new players all the time. Hopefully, we can all stay healthy and finish the season strongly with a good cup run.”
The team report back for training at 7pm on Thursday, January 9 at Edge Hill University. If you would like to give Women’s Rugby a try, contact JohnFoster@rfu.com or call 07738648944.
