COMEDIAN, actor and performance poet Phil Jupitus will appear in Liverpool as part of this year's Writing on the Wall Festival.

The Never Mind The Buzzcocks star, aka Porky the Poet, and Tim Wells will present their show Proletariat Poetry From Two Stout Lads at the Baltic Social in Jamaica Street on May 10.

Wells has been described as a "hard-giggling" poet of "wit and brilliance", and the audience can expect a comedy-filled poetry evening involving wild anarchy and utter hilarity.

Meanwhile, Silent Witness' Liz Carr brings Funny Girls to Leaf in Bold Street on May 24 at 8pm.

The actress, disability activist and comedian will be joined by a host of local funny girls at the event.

Writing on the Wall Festival director Madeline Heneghan said today: "It's a real scoop for the WoW Festival to get two major stars of TV, Phil Jupitus and Liz Carr, to step out of the box and on to the comedy stage in Liverpool in May.

"With Proletarian Poetry, and a commitment to 'telling it like it is', these nights are tailor-made for a Liverpool audience."

The annual festival takes place at venues across the city throughout May.

This year's title is Shell Shock, and alongside names like Irving Welsh, there will also be a strand of events to commemorate the centenary of the outbreak of WWI, using "words over bullets, bombast instead of bombs, debating the death of the brave and their legacy".
