Multiple British Blues Awards winner Ian Siegal Plays The Atkinson

Ian Siegal

HE’S jammed with Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood, sung with the prestigious ONJ orchestra in Paris, toured in 25 countries, and his next CD is a BBC recording at the Royal Albert Hall. Oh, and he’s playing at The Atkinson on Thursday, May 15 at 7.30pm.

Ian Siegal may not be a household name but for those “in the know” he is among the most exciting and powerful singers on the contemporary blues-rock scene. While he is perhaps best known as a bluesman - inspired by the likes of Howlin’ Wolf – it is just one shade in the palette of an artist who slips between continents, eras and expectations.

A typical Siegal show is a rollercoaster of emotions, powerful lyrics, and driving rhythms. Don’t be surprised if, in the middle of a song, he switches to a Prince-inspired funky workout signalling to his band with a staccato stamp of his foot; or if suddenly he decides to silence the band completely and whisper the lyrics into the microphone. Siegal takes command of the stage in a way very few artists alive today can match.

Last year he picked up four awards in the UK and Europe, and was nominated for best album in two prestigious American awards.

‘Vast talent, historical reverence and forward thinking’ is what Blues Revue USA had to say about him, with Mojo UK describing him as ‘awash with wit, lust and distraction…..the cleverest writer and most magnetic performer of Blues in the UK’.

Tickets for the Ian Siegal Band are £12 advance and £14 doors and are available to book online at theatkinson.co.uk or through the Box Office on 01704 533333. Tickets are also available over the counter during The Atkinson opening hours.
