As well as dazzling blooms, there will be a host of famous faces appearing at
this year’s Southport Flower Show.
Entertainer Anton du Beke will waltzing around the wisteria at Southport as he officially opens the show on Thursday, August 14.
The popular TV star has performed in all 11 series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and is a viewers’ favourite, partnering a string of high-profile celebrities.
Away from the Strictly dancefloor, he has also presented TV cookery programmes and the quiz show Hole In The Wall. Anton, who will be visiting Southport for the first time, said: “Since I moved out to live in the country I have particularly enjoyed
spending time in the garden. Hopefully, I can pick up some tips from the gardening experts.”
Actress Lisa Riley will be the star guest at Ladies’ Day. Lisa found fame as a teenager playing Mandy Dingle in Emmerdale and went on to present popular ITV show You’ve Been Framed. She has appeared in several acclaimed TV dramas and won over a new legion of fans in the 10th series of Strictly Come Dancing.
Lisa said: “I have been dancing around the world since Strictly and it’s wonderful to hear about how many people have been inspired by my appearance on the programme. I’m looking forward to telling visitors at Southport all about it.”
Celebrity cake designer and TV presenter Mich Turner, MBE, known as the ‘Queen of Couture Cakes’ will host two demonstrations in the Food Village at the show on Friday, August 15, at noon and 3pm, followed by a book signing.
Her award-winning designs have drawn A-list clients including Madonna, Cheryl Cole and David Beckham to order celebration treats from her Little Venice Cake Company.
Mich said: “I’m sure there will be plenty of inspiration for fabulous cake designs among the beautiful floral displays at the show.”
Coronation Street actress Alison King will bring some Weatherfield glamour to the show as she visits Southport. Alison’s performances as unlucky-in-love businesswoman Carla have led critics to hail Alison as the new Elsie Tanner.
Alison will be the star guest at Southport on Saturday, August 16.
One of the best-known faces in the North West, Granada Report’s Paul Crone has been a hardy perennial at the Southport flower show and will be on hand to greet visitors every day once again this summer. He has also used his TV profile to champion a string of good causes, helping to raise more than half a million pounds for charities and appeals over the years.
A regular expert on BBC’s Antiques Roadshow Eric Knowles is a well known face and respected antiquarian who this year will be at the show. Eric will be doing a number of talks and demonstrations at the show.
